LOS ANGELES, CA - August 2026 - After building an audience through a series of ambitious, award-winning superhero fan films, independent filmmaker and actor Marcus Nel-Jamal Hamm is preparing to enter a new chapter of his career: creating an original cinematic universe of his own.

Hamm's next project, THE DRAGON KING, is envisioned as the beginning of an original fantasy-superhero franchise blending mythology, medieval adventure, supernatural horror and contemporary superhero storytelling.

The project marks a significant creative evolution for Hamm, whose previous fan-film work demonstrated what
independent filmmakers can accomplish with established genre characters. With The Dragon King, Hamm is taking that experience and applying it to a mythology, characters and world built from the ground up.
 

The project is already earning recognition. The screenplay for The Dragon King has received its first award recognition as a nominee for Best Feature Film Screenplay at Film Invasion Los Angeles, giving the developing franchise an early milestone before cameras roll.

THE LEGEND OF THE DRAGON KING

At the center of the story is Mundir, a Moorish knight whose destiny changes forever when he encounters the mysterious sorceress Strega.

Faced with three immensely powerful dragons, Mundir uses a magical amulet to capture the creatures - but the spell comes with an extraordinary consequence. Rather than simply destroying the dragons, the amulet imprisons all three within Mundir himself.

Mundir becomes their living vessel. Immortal, extraordinarily powerful and forever connected to the monsters imprisoned inside him, the warrior is transformed into The Dragon King.

But when the possibility of a devastating dragon apocalypse emerges, an unlikely supernatural alliance forms to stop it.
An Egyptian goddess living in human form joins forces with two werewolf brothers, setting the stage for a battle involving ancient magic, gods, monsters and the fate of humanity.

TIFFANY TONEY JOINS THE SAGA

Hamm will be joined behind and in front of the camera by award-winning director and actor Tiffany Toney, who will co-direct and co-star in The Dragon King.

The collaboration brings together two independent filmmakers with experience building projects both in front of and behind the camera. Together, Hamm and Toney intend to create a character-driven fantasy spectacle while establishing a mythology capable of expanding well beyond the first film.

For Hamm, The Dragon King represents more than another production - it represents the transition from celebrating the superhero and fantasy stories that inspired him to building an original universe with its own mythology and future.
 

"The fan films gave me an opportunity to show what we could create independently with characters audiences already loved," said Hamm. "The Dragon King is the next evolution. Now we're taking everything we learned and putting it into characters and a mythology of our own. I want to build a universe where Black and diverse fantasy heroes can stand at the center of an epic story involving dragons, gods, werewolves, sorcery and superheroes."

With its first screenplay recognition secured and development underway, THE DRAGON KING is being positioned as the opening chapter of a larger fantasy-superhero saga - one in which ancient mythology collides with the modern world and the greatest threat to humanity may be the dragons waiting to awaken from within their king.
